1. Who we are
NorthStar Handyman Co. LLC (“NorthStar,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a residential handyman and home repair company based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Our registered address is 2740 Minnehaha Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55406. We provide small home repair, maintenance, and northern-climate specialty services to homeowners, landlords, and property managers in the Minneapolis–St. Paul metro area.
This Privacy Policy describes how we handle personal information collected through our website at northstarhandyman.top, our phone and text communications, our booking and appointment tools, our email correspondence, and any related services (together, the “Services”).
By using our Services, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Services.
2. Information we collect
We collect three broad categories of information:
Information you give us directly
- Contact details. Your name, phone number, email address, and service address (or ZIP code).
- Job details. The description of the work you want done, photos you choose to send, and any access notes (gate codes, parking, pets, apartment numbers).
- Booking preferences. The service category, preferred day, and preferred arrival window you select.
- Payment details. When you pay by card, we receive a payment confirmation and the last four digits of your card. We do not store full card numbers on our systems — they are handled by our payment processor.
- Communication history. Emails, text messages, and phone notes related to your job.
Information collected automatically
- Device and browser data. IP address, browser type, operating system, device type, and general location derived from IP.
- Usage data. Pages you visit, links you click, time spent on pages, and referring URLs.
- Cookie data. Small files stored on your device that help us remember your preferences and understand how the site is used. See section 5 for details.
Information from third parties
- Review platforms. If you leave a review on Google or another platform, that platform may make your review publicly visible. We do not receive private data from those platforms beyond what is publicly posted.
- Referrals. If a friend, neighbor, or property manager refers you, they may share your name and contact details with us. We only use those details to reach out about the job they mentioned.
3. Why we collect it
We use your information only for the following purposes:
- To schedule and perform the job. Confirming your appointment window, sending a handyman to your address, and following up after the visit.
- To quote and invoice. Estimating your job, processing payment, and emailing you a receipt.
- To communicate with you. Responding to questions, sending scheduling updates by text or email, and confirming changes.
- To improve our Services. Understanding which pages and services are most useful, fixing problems, and refining our pricing and scheduling.
- To comply with the law. Maintaining records required by Minnesota and Wisconsin contractor regulations and responding to valid legal requests.
- To prevent fraud and abuse. Verifying payment information and protecting our systems from misuse.
- With your consent. For any other purpose we describe to you and you approve.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your information for targeted advertising outside our own site. We do not send marketing emails unless you have explicitly opted in.
6. How long we keep it
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes described in this policy, plus any additional period required by law.
- Active customer records. Retained for as long as we are actively working with you and for seven years afterward, to satisfy tax and contractor licensing record-keeping requirements.
- Booking and inquiry records. If you contacted us but did not book a job, we retain your information for up to two years and then delete it.
- Website analytics data. Retained in aggregate for up to twenty-six months.
- Cookie data. Retained for up to twelve months from your last visit, depending on the cookie.
- Payment records. Retained for seven years to comply with tax and accounting obligations.
When information is no longer needed, we delete it or anonymize it so it cannot be linked back to you.
7. Your privacy rights
Regardless of where you live, we give every customer the following rights:
- Access. You can ask us what personal information we have about you.
- Correction. You can ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or out of date.
- Deletion. You can ask us to delete personal information we no longer need, subject to legal record-keeping requirements.
- Portability. You can ask us to provide a copy of your personal information in a commonly used format.
- Opt-out of communications. You can reply STOP to any text message or click the unsubscribe link in any email. We will honor the request within 24 hours for texts and immediately for emails.
- Non-discrimination. We will never deny you service, charge a different price, or provide a lower quality of service because you exercised a privacy right.
To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected] or call (612) 555-0184. We will verify your identity using information we already have on file and respond within 45 days.
8. California residents
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) gives you additional rights, including the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to request deletion, the right to correct inaccurate information, and the right to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information.
We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes beyond those permitted by the CCPA.
To exercise your California rights, email [email protected] with “California Privacy Request” in the subject line. You may also designate an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf; we will require written authorization and verification.
9. Children’s privacy
Our Services are designed for adults arranging home repair work. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us at [email protected] and we will delete the information promptly.
10. How we protect your data
We take reasonable and appropriate steps to protect personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These include:
- Encryption of data in transit using HTTPS (TLS 1.2 or higher).
- Access controls limiting who within NorthStar can view customer information.
- Payment card data handled exclusively by a PCI-compliant payment processor.
- Regular review of our vendor relationships and their security posture.
- Employee training on handling personal information responsibly.
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your information with the same care we would want for our own.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and, if the changes are significant, notify you by email or by a prominent notice on the site before the changes take effect.
